SunGarden Montessori Children’s House is a non-profit AMI (Association Montessori Internationale) recognized school for children 2 ½ – 6 years of age.

Since 1980, SunGarden has been located in a charming house across the street from Sunset Park in West Linn, Oregon. Beginning with one classroom, the house has since been remodeled to create two lovely classrooms, a Siesta room and office.

Each classroom provides an inviting environment for young children.  AMI-certified teachers and assistants create a nurturing, respectful atmosphere in which children learn and grow at their own pace, enjoying a wide variety of thoughtfully-chosen activities.  The natural outdoor environments have been purposefully designed for children’s exploration, discovery, play, gardening and nature activities; and are available throughout the day, every day.

Our community is composed of families from West Linn, Lake Oswego, Oregon City and several other towns in the Portland area.

On-going Community Events:

In addition to supporting young children, we aim to support the whole family, and in doing so, create a connected, compassionate community.  We offer a variety of opportunities for parents and families to get to know one another and look forward to the traditions that help define SunGarden as a warm and welcoming place.

Our SunGarden Parent Association (SPA) offers monthly Morning Coffees as an informal opportunity to share coffee and conversation with fellow SunGarden parents.

Our administrator, Ann Messick, offers monthly Montessori Matters meetings for parents to further introduce the Montessori approach and offer ideas for incorporating Montessori principles in everyday life.

Each year, we gather as a community for our Fall Family Picnic, Fall Pumpkin Patch Play Date, Winter Solstice Celebration, Spring Dance Party, and Spring Family Picnic.

Funds to Flourish:

Our Funds to Flourish annual fundraising campaign has been most innovative this year; with Life-long Learning classes offered by parents for parents; a Special Appeal campaign that reached many of our alums from the past 30 years; a raffle of a 2-bedroom Marriott Vacation Club Villa with a $1,000 travel voucher; and a culminating Fiesta celebration.  Our Fiesta, held at a family’s home on May 5th, was a great success as we gathered as a community, enjoyed delicious food, and bid on special items created by the children.  Our goal is to raise funds for enhancements to our facility as well as our tuition assistance and scholarship funds while strengthening our community in a way that reflects the spirit of SunGarden.  Thanks to the creativity and generosity of many, it is working beautifully.
